The Fresh Food Funds program is dedicated to increasing access to fresh, nutritious, and culturally relevant foods for California City, an underrepresented California community. By focusing on SNAP shoppers, this program offers a unique $1-for-$1 match incentive, up to $50 per day, enabling shoppers to double their spending power on locally sourced produce. This matching incentive helps make fresh, wholesome foods more affordable, empowering families to make healthier eating choices.
Fresh Food Funds emphasizes cultural sensitivity by providing foods that align with diverse culinary traditions, encouraging a sustainable shift toward healthier diets that respect cultural preferences. In addition to improving food access, the program fosters a holistic approach to wellness by offering fitness education and wellness workshops that complement dietary changes, supporting long-term healthy lifestyles.
By partnering with local farmers and the Cal City Farmer’s Market, Fresh Food Funds also strengthens the local food economy, creating a ripple effect that supports sustainable agriculture and reinforces food security within the community. Through increased accessibility, affordability, and culturally relevant options, this program is building a healthier, more resilient community that values wellness and celebrates diversity.
This program is funded by the USDA's GusNIP Nutrition Incentive grant.
