Funding for the TreeVitalize project is made possible through the Inflation Reduction Act and the USDA Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program, in collaboration with the Arbor Day Foundation's Community Roots Program. This partnership aims to address climate change and enhance urban resilience by investing in tree planting and urban greening initiatives. The financial support provided will allow REACH to plant 500+ fruit trees in California City, fostering environmental sustainability, improving air quality, and providing long-term health and economic benefits to the community.
We began planning our first tree planting back in October of 2024. We wanted it to be in a location with a purpose. Community members gave the suggestion of a new Christmas Tree at City Hall. Everyone loved the idea and we started moving forward.
We had a small team that took the lead on landscaping the area outside City Hall on the main road. With guidance of the President from the Desert Rose Garden Club and volunteers, work began on prepping the ground in the middle of December.
Community members turned out for the Tree Dedication Ceremony on January 25, 2025. Everyone came together at the very end and assisted with planting our first tree in the ground marking the beginning of our three year endeavor to plant 500+ trees in California City.
